New J-Dilla Album PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 03 June 2009 11:52

Some of my favorites off the 25 track album (Got it on the release date)

It is just sick!! Press release said they had to pull instrumentals from floppy disks!!

New J Dilla Album Due This Summer Ma Dukes exec produces, Pete Rock mixes and arranges, we get excited When psych-rap producer J Dilla died of complications from lupus in 2006, he left behind a huge amount of unreleased material, almost all of it good or at least listenable. And since his death, he's reached almost Tupac-like levels of posthumous productivity. On June 2, Nature Sounds will add to Dilla's considerable legacy with Jay $tay Paid, a collection of 25 unreleased Dilla beats presented in just about the coolest possible way. Dilla's mother, Maureen Yancey (aka Ma Dukes), executive produced the album. In a press release, she's got this to say about it: "It wasn't rushed, and it wasn't haphazard. This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep, and some stuff pulled from old floppy disks & DATs. It's mind blowing...this is like the missing links to Dilla's legacy." Even better: Pete Rock, Dilla's creative idol, mixed and arranged the album. Given that Dilla spent most of his career building on ideas laid down by Pete Rock and fellow early-90s rap production auteurs like Large Professor, Rock is a great choice to put this thing together. The mix will be mostly instrumental, but a few Dilla-friendly rappers make guest appearances, including DOOM, Raekwon, and the Roots' Black Thought. www.rockfordhhc.org
