THE THREE THINGS NESS WILL WATCH FOR IF HE SEES YOU DANCING
1) HIPS “I believe there’s a certain way to throw hips – hip movement comes natural,” Ness says. “That’s why guys like watching women walk. The same philosophy applies to dance. There are certain things that make even walking look better.” 2) HANDS “I really watch how person hold their hands, and what they do with their hands,” Ness says. “That’s what separates Bronx style from all other boroughs. This day and age, a lot of people do it.” 3) CHARACTER “Usually the hands are already determining the character,” Ness explains. “Just the way they carry themselves. That has a lot to do with the music … You have to realize that whatever they’re playing is your theme music. If it doesn’t fit your character, demeanor, style, it’s not gonna look right. At that point, you’re just going through the motions. But just because a person isn’t like me, I’m not gonna say they’re not a real b-boy.”

worth re-posting, so please read:

mr. lara- teacher,poet,
First of all, I would like to thank all the people who came out to the show last night. I have great friends and made some new ones.
It really seems like local performers do a lousy job of supporting each other. I’m not calling out anyone specifically, because this happens in every scene in every city. If you’re just a trendy bandwagon jumper, it’s pretty obvious and everyone already knows what your transparent ass is all about and you can stop reading. This is directed towards those who devote their lives to their art but then don’t support other people who do the same. So what if someone else is in a different genre? Odds are even if you’re a heavy metal guitarist and another artist from your hometown who has a show going on is a rapper, you have more in common with the rapper than with any of the millionaires in Metallica or Korn. You’re not just supporting the local artist when you go to a show, you are also supporting the venue that hosted the show and just might book your band/act. In this recession, you’re better off going to see a local act for $5 or $6 than spending $20 on gas to park in a $10 space so that you can buy a $20 to $50 concert ticket to see a band that really doesn’t need your money. Even if you hate every band in your town, it’s a way to network and get the word out on your band. If you don’t support your local scene, it will go away. It’s happened before, venues shut down. Then people complain that “this town sucks, there’s nothing to do.” I hear people say that about Chicago and if you check Pollstar, there are shows going on every night.
I want to end on a positive note and once again express my gratitude for the people who were there. I was doing comedy but there were several local musicians whose show’s I used to attend.
If you think my comedy sucks, that’s fine, but odds are at least one of the people I am performing with will make you laugh yourself silly. Same goes with music shows, poetry readings, whatever. If you do not support other performers, other performers will not support you, and you will just end up another frustrated artist that no one gives a f*** about.
